Checkpoints- Events that made American history

REVOLUTION

1. There were 13 colonies.

2. The slogan was; "No taxation without representation".

3. Lexington

4. They declared their independence on July 4th in 1776 at the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia.

SLAVERY AND THE CIVIL WAR

1. The first group of African slaves arrived in the new world in 1619.

2. The importation of new slaves was made illegal in 1807.

3. Abraham Lincoln became president in 1860.

4.  South Carolina left the union and and was followed by ten other states.

5. It was a document that said that there should be no more slavery, so it set the slaves free.

IN THE USA IN WW I AND WW II

1. We call it isolationism.

2. They entered the war because one of the American boats was attacked in 1917.

3. The league of Nations was formed to secure peace.

4. The US entered WW II in December 1941.

5. Harry S. Truman was responsible for dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

6. The American men went to fight, so the American women started working to play their part in the war effort. This gave America a huge economic boost.

THE COLD WAR

1. It was a suprise because they had combined forces during in WW II.

2. The soviets were first into space with the launching of the Sputnik satellite.

3. Neil Armstrong said this.

4.  Ronald Reagen and Mikhail Gorbachev were central in the process of ending the Cold War.
